By: Gabrielle Sierra
MacIntyre Dixon, whose Broadway career spans five decades, will assume the role of Henry in The Fantasticks, the world's longest-running musical, on Monday, August 17, 2009. He replaces John Thomas Waite, whose final performance is August 16.
Dixon most recently appeared on Broadway in Cyrano de Bergerac. Other Broadway credits include Gypsy (with Bernadette Peters), The Crucible, Prelude To A Kiss, 1776, A Funny Thing...Forum, The Tempest, Beauty and The Beast and 3 Penny Opera. Off Broadway credits include Comic Potential, Arms and the Man, Room Service, Hamlet, Little Murders, The Tempest and Tom Foolery. Film credits include School of Rock, In & Out, A River Runs Through It, The Dream Team, Funny Farm, *batteries not included, The Secret Of My Succe$s, Popeye and Reds. The Fantasticks (music by Harvey Schmidt, book/lyrics/direction by Tom Jones) is a captivating and simple romantic comedy about a boy and girl who fall in and out of love at the hands of their meddling fathers. The audience uses its imagination to follow the narrator, El Gallo, as he creates a world of moonlight and magic until the boy and girl find their way back to one other. The score, which includes the hit songs "Try To Remember," "They Were You" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain," is as timeless as the story itself.Photo credit Walter McBride
