David Hyde Pierce Stars as Scrooge in WQXR's Reading of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, 12/9

This year, a six-year-long WQXR tradition will continue with a little help from WNYC - and a Tony Award winner, too.

On Thursday, December 9 at 5pm, the annual WQXR reading of Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL will take place in the station's live performance venue, The Greene Space. WQXR personalities, including Jeff Spurgeon and Midge Woolsey, will be joined by WNYC hosts, including Kurt Andersen and Jad Abumrad, in a version re-imagined for stage and directed by WQXR's Elliott Forrest.

Stage and screen actor David Hyde Pierce will star in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Participating WNYC and WQXR personalities include:

 · Kurt Andersen (Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen)

· Brooke Gladstone (On the Media)

· Robert Krulwich (Radiolab)

· Jad Abumrad (Radiolab)

· Leonard Lopate (The Leonard Lopate Show)

· John Schaefer (Soundcheck, New Sounds)

· Soterios Johnson (Morning Edition)

· Jeff Spurgeon (WQXR)

· Midge Woolsey (WQXR)

· Elliott Forrest (WQXR)

· David Garland (WQXR, WNYC)

In addition to Pierce, A CHRISTMAS CAROL's cast and crew includes A Prarie Home Companion's touring foley artist Fred Newman, who will shape the audio atmosphere of the production, and award-winning songwriter and composer John Forster (Into the Light, A Good Swift Kick) on the piano.

The festivities will continue through The Greene Space and onto Charlton and Varick Streets, where an outdoor viewing and listening area will be available for passersby and hot cider will be served, courtesy of Red Jacket Orchards.

The Greene Space is WQXR's new multi-platform broadcast studio and performance venue, forging a new way to present exciting content by capturing the energy of live performance, the open access of radio, and the geographical scope and interactivity of the web. A unique destination for some of the most innovative artists, musicians, and thinkers, including Patrick Stewart, John Cameron Mitchell, the late Jill Clayburgh, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Cornel West, Simone Dinnerstein, Chou Wen-Chung, Brentano String Quartet, Sting, Lou Reed, and Sonia Sanchez, The Greene Space allows in-person performance, radio, and web-based videocasting to merge seamlessly, fostering new audience possibilities and vibrant creativity.
