Cumpsty Stars as 'Richard III' with CSC, Nov.1-Dec.9

Classic Stage Company will present Obie Award winner Michael Cumpsty in the title role in Shakespeare's Richard III beginning performances Thursday, November 1 at CSC (136 East 13th Street).  The production kicks of CSC's 40th anniversary season.

Co-directed by Kulick and Cumpsty, Richard III will play a limited engagement from Thursday, November 1 through Sunday, December 9.  The official opening night is Tuesday, November 13 at 7PM.

Joining Cumpsty in the cast of Richard III are Craig Baldwin, Steven Boyer, Philip Goodwin, Chad Hoeppner, Paul Lazar, Roberta Maxwell, KK Moggie, Michael Potts, Maria Tucci and Graham Winton.  Richard III will feature sets by Mark Wendland, lighting by Brian Scott and costumes by Oana Ban-Botez.

Michael Cumpsty has appeared on Broadway in the acclaimed Roundabout production of The Constant Wife and in Michael Frayn's Democracy.  His other Broadway appearances include Copenhagen, Enchanted April (Outer Critics Circle Award nomination), 42nd Street (Outer Critics Circle Award nomination), Electra, the Roundabout production of 1776, Racing Demon, The Heiress, Translations, La Bête and Artist Descending a Staircase.

Brian Kulick's directing credits for Classic Stage Company include Richard II, Hamlet, Marivaux's The False Servant with Martha Plimpton, The Mysteries and Amphitryon.
