Clockwork Theater Presents Premiere of Jason Hall's GBS, 3/20-4/10

The Clockwork Theatre, a New York City-based non-profit organization is proud to announce the second production of their 5th Anniversary season with the US Premiere of G.B.S., written by Jason Hall, directed by Jay Rohloff. Performances will begin on Saturday, March, 20; opening Sunday, March 28 at 2PM and will run through April 10, 2010 at the Kirk Theatre (410 West 42nd Street).

In G.B.S., Rich and Sam meet up at the airport. They haven't seen each other in years and they have practically nothing in common. But their father is lying in a coma and the least they can do is find out why. This unique, beautifully crafted two-hander tells the story of two brothers trying to get to the hospital in one piece - a hilarious tale of suburban misadventure.

G.B.S received its Canadian premiere in Toronto where the Toronto Eye Weekly called it "smart, funny and moving" and the Toronto Sun called it "touching and hilarious." The play subsequently received its European premiere at Theatre 503 in London. In their review of that production, The Stage noted that "Hall is clearly in firm control of his characters and presents a compelling and ultimately truthful account of how much remains un-spoken within the confines of a family." The Clockwork Theatre's production will mark the U.S. Premiere of the play.

The cast features: Curran Connor (The Main(e) Play), and Clockwork company member Jason Jacoby. This production will feature scenic and lighting design by Taryn Kennedy and Josh Windhausen, costume design by Mary Hunt, and sound design by Dale Bigall. Casting by Judy Bowman.

JASON HALL (Playwright) Jason Hall's other plays include Eyes Catch Fire (Finborough, London), Insurgency (Tristan Bates, London), and Bridges (Sala Beckett, Barcelona). Stand Sentry, a short film adapted from his play of the same name, premiered at the 2009 Strasbourg International Film Festival where it was nominated for best script. He has won several awards, including Canada's Herman Voaden Competition, the London Writer's Competition, Time Out Critic's Choice, and a British Council Visiting Artist Fellowship to Colombia. He lives in London.

Jay Rohloff (director) is a founding member of The Clockwork Theatre. He has worked extensively in New York as an actor, director and scenic designer. (True West, Too Far Gone in the Middle of Nowhere, The Monument, Apartment 3A, A Number, Cherry Smoke, Underground) As Artistic Director for Clockwork, Jay has worked closely with playwright James Mcmanus and Director Jade King Carroll to develop the US Premiere of Cherry Smoke, presented in the Kirk Theatre at Theatre Row in February of 2009. Rohloff and McManus collaborated again with Producing Director Owen M. Smith on developing the World Premiere of McManus' most recent play, Underground, presented in the Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row in September of 2009. Rohloff and Smith also co-adapted existing versions of the play Don Juan in Chicago with playwright David Ives. This Definitive Edition was performed for the first time by The Clockwork Theatre in the Kirk Theatre at Theatre Row in May of 2007, has since been published and is currently available.

THE CLOCKWORK THEATRE (Producing Organization) was founded in May 2005. The company presented its premiere production of Sam Shepard's True West in May of 2006 at The Duo Theatre in the East 4th Street Cultural District. The 06/07 Season began at The Clurman Theatre at Theatre Row in January of 2007, with Clockwork's production of The Monument by Colleen Wagner. Following that, in May, Clockwork produced a newly adapted version of David Ives' comedy, Don Juan in Chicago, directed by Owen M SmitH. Smith, along with Clockwork's Artistic Director, Jay Rohloff, adapted Mr. Ives' previous versions of the play, and that new adaptation has since been published as the Definitive Edition of the script. Clockwork's 07/08 season featured Jeff Daniels' Apartment 3A, directed by Owen M. Smith. The Clockwork Reading Series was founded that season, with James Mcmanus' Cherry Smoke as the series' first offering. The 08/09 season began in September with a revival of Caryl Churchill's A Number, directed by Beverly Brumm. In February 2009, Clockwork presented a full-scale production of Cherry Smoke, directed by Jade King Carroll, following a great reception of the play during the 2008 Reading Series. This current season, the 5th anniversary season for the company, began with the world premiere of Underground, Clockwork's second production from resident playwright James Mcmanus. The company will also present the third annual installment of The Clockwork Reading Series later this year.
