That instrument is the piano at home in almost all styles and genres. With this as a starting point, the young composer Therese Birkelund Ulvo (born 1982) in his commissioned works for KSO chosen to write something as rare as a Concerto for two pianos and Orchestra. It is written for two pianists of different genre background; Ellen Ugelvik (classical/contemporary music) and Andreas Ulvo (jazz). She has been selected as the opening Beethoven's energetic Overture to the play Coriolanus of Shakespeare.
Tchaikovsky died of cholera just nine days after the urfremføringen of his sixth Symphony. It was immediately a rumour that he had taken his own life, and many people will interpret this Symphony as his musical suicide note.
