BLKS by Aziza Barnes
Robert B. Moss Theatre, 1300 Altamont Avenue, Richmond, VA
Directed by Nora Ogunleye
Three best friends. One Brooklyn apartment. Twenty-four chaotic hours—and more bad decisions than anyone wants to admit.
Octavia (Journey Entzminger), June (Sydnee Graves), and Imani (Zakiyyah Jackson) are young, queer, Black, and doing their best to find love, purpose, pleasure, and a little peace in a city that never slows down. Over the course of one unforgettable day and night, unexpected crises, complicated encounters, and increasingly questionable choices put their friendship—and their ability to keep it together—to the test. They drink a lot. They smoke a lot. They try to have sex. A lot. But when sh*t goes down, your girls show up.
Loud, messy, smart, and bursting with life, BLKS is a fiercely funny and surprisingly tender comedy about chosen family, resilience, and the friends who know exactly who you are—and show up anyway. This fast-moving, profanity-laced roller coaster offers an unapologetic look at queer Black womanhood while celebrating something everyone can recognize: surviving life with your best friends by your side. Recommended for ages 16+.
