TheatreLAB Sets Fourth Season

? TheatreLAB, Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance, is thrilled to announce their 2016-2017 Season: Women at War. It is a season that celebrates stories of women at war with themselves and the world around them. A team of all women directors will lead the four MainStage shows, as well as TheatreLAB's secondary season, The Cellar Series, which will be a year-long festival of one-woman shows.
Firehouse Theatre Extends MAPLE AND VINE

Firehouse has announced that its current production of Jordan Harrison's MAPLE AND VINE -- a new play about old times -- that was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, May 8 will be extended for an additional five performances through Saturday, May 21, 2016. Virginia Repertory Theatre to Present Tennessee Williams' SUMMER AND SMOKE, 4/22-5/15

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Summer and Smoke by Tennessee Williams at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, April 22 with a preview on Thursday, April 21. The production runs through May 15, 2016. Set in Mississippi at the dawn of the 20th century, the story centers on a young woman's sexual awareness as it evolves from chaste modesty to desire. First staged on Broadway in 1948, the show was not well received. A 1952 revival at Circle in the Square Theatre featuring a legendary performance by Geraldine Page received rave reviews and was credited with beginning the Off-Broadway movement. Stu Falconer, one of six New York actors to form Barksdale Theatre (now Virginia Rep) in 1953, left his job as the stage manager of that Circle in the Square production to move to Virginia.
The Alden Awards Scholarships to Young Performers

The Alden in McLean awarded scholarships to six local high school students for successfully competing in the 2016 James C. Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition. Following a preliminary audition and a final completion at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 16, the prizes were presented by MCC Governing Board Chair Paul Kohlenberger and The Alden's Director of Youth Programs Kathleen Herr. A division of the McLean Community Center, The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.
