Virginia Stage Company to Launch 'The Line: Art For Social Change'

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Dreamgirls on June 24 at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street. The production runs through August 7, 2016. With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen, this megawatt Broadway crowd-pleaser electrifies the stage with Motown dreams and powerhouse voices. Loosely based on Diana Ross and the Supremes, the story follows the turbo-charged rise to fame of the Dreams.
Firehouse Theatre to Stage Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT, 6/23-7/23

'Welcome to a new kind of tension, all across the alienation, where everything isn't meant to be okay.' These lyrics from the title song in Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT reflect Billie Joe Armstrong's embrace of and response to the anxiety of our post 9/11 age that helped make their music the anthem for a generation. AMERICAN IDIOT was recorded as a 'punk rock opera' and won a Grammy in 2005 before it was adapted into an award-winning Broadway musical in 2009. Previews are Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24 at 7:30pm. Opening is Saturday, June 25 at 7:30, and this limited run engagement of ten performances continues through Saturday, July 23.

The Historic Jordan Springs Estate will host 8 fundraiser dinner theatre performances of the comedy GREATER TUNA spanning from July 8th to July 24th as part of the effort to support the Expansion Campaign of the Winchester Little Theatre. The event will begin with a plated dinner followed by the show. This hilarious comedy features 20 different over-the-top characters who live in the Lone Star state of Texas in the tiny town of Tuna. The story centers around the antics and blunder of the local news production station.

Last week, hot Hollywood writers Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, Horton Hears a Who, the upcoming Secret Life of Pets) traveled to Manitoba, Canada to see a production of their musical BUBBLE BOY by students at Crocus Plains High School. It was the fourth production they've personally attended in the past 18 months, having already visited Danville, Pennsylvania, Port Jefferson, New York, and Agoura Hills, California.
