Virginia Stage To Unveil Little Free Library

Virginia Stage Company is thrilled to partner with Friends of the Norfolk Public Library and offer a Little Free Library to the Hampton Roads community. Their newly repurposed newspaper stand, donated by the Virginian-Pilot, is filled with plays and dramatic literature for all to enjoy. Passersby are encouraged to grab a play and return for another!

Wolfbane Productions will be presenting the highly anticipated musical-comedy "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" in Appomattox  from September 20-October 13, 2018. In association with Williams Collision Center and Jamerson Building Supply, Wolfbane is proud to host this incredible production at their new indoor location, The Wolf Den, 197 Old Courthouse Rd, Appomattox, VA 24522. Thursday-Saturday, doors open at 7pm; the show will begin at 8pm.  Sunday will be matinee day, with doors opening at 5pm; the show will begin at 6pm. Enhance your experience and order a meat pie (or sweet pie) to enjoy before the show!

Opening Night for Virginia Stage Company's Season 40 opening production Always…Patsy Cline will take place on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:30pm, with a preview performance on Tuesday, September 18. Written by Ted Swindley and directed by Amy Jones, who also directed the Season 39 hit musical Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash, this production returns to Virginia Stage Company nearly 20 years later.

The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) commemorates three decades of Shakespeare by honoring Classical Theatre of Harlem Artistic Director Ty Jones and the Citizens of Staunton, Virginia at its 30th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, September 22 at the Blackfriars Playhouse and Stonewall Jackson Hotel. The celebration will include a diverse array of ASC artists ranging from members of the original Shenandoah Shakespeare Express touring company to recent ASC Theatre Camp students.

NEVERMORE To Open Creative Cauldron 10th Season

Creative Cauldron opens its 2018-2019 season with Nevermore, the hauntingly beautiful musical written by resident composer and director, Matt Conner and writer, Grace Barnes. Nevermore draws from the poetry and short stories of the iconic Edgar Allan Poe. After its premiere at Signature Theatre in 2006, The Washington Post hailed Nevermore for its 'romantic music, ablaze with feeling.' Following its 2011 run at Creative Cauldron, Nevermore earned Creative Cauldron its first Helen Hayes Award recommendation. This imaginative musical delves deep into Poe's psyche and explores his gripping obsession with the pivotal women who seemingly haunt his tortured existence. The production will run through October 28 at Creative Cauldron, Falls Church, 410 South Maple Avenue. Performances are Thursdays at 8:00PM, Fridays at 8:00PM, Saturdays at 8:00PM, and Sundays at 2:00PM & 7:00PM.

Richmond Triangle Players continues its 2018-19 season with The Laramie Project, the groundbreaking play by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project that chronicles the people and events that led up to the horrific murder of Matthew Shepard, as well as the immediate aftermath. The production will open Friday September 28 at 8:00 pm, after two low-priced previews on Wednesday and Thursday September 26 and 27 at 8:00 pm, and run through Friday October 19.

FRAMEWORKS, an evening of new and experimental dance works, will showcase six original dance pieces by Richmond and Cleveland choreographers. The showcase, organized by Richmond-based musician Hayden Arp, began originally as a collaborative project between Arp and Cleveland, OH-based dancer and choreographer Akane Little. The project has grown to showcase their second collaborative piece Aerobics Class, as well as pieces by Richmond-based choreographers Alicia Olivo, Jelani Taylor, Torian Ugworji, Christine Wyatt, and Callie Moore's Snap Soup Dance.
