Wayside Theatre Artistic Director Warner Crocker announced the mystery play of the season and performance schedule, Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. The play runs through November 7th. The production is sponsored by WVPT - Virginia's Public Television.

Sherlock Homes: The Final Adventure is a mystery thriller adapted by: Steven Dietz. "The game is afoot, Watson - and it is a dangerous one!" The element of mystery, danger, intrigue, wit, humor and surprise in this fast moving- spirited adaptation. "Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure" is adapted from an 1899 play by Arthur Conan Doyle and William Gillette. Dietz blends together several plots from two tales (A Scandal in Bohemia and The Adventure of the Final Problem) creating a mystery thriller, which won the 2007 Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Mystery Play. The world's greatest detective has reached the height of his remarkable career when a case presents itself to tempting to ignore. The King of Bohemia is about to be blackmailed and the woman at the heart of this crime is the famous opera singer, Irene Alder. With his trusted friend, Doctor Watson, Sherlock Holmes purses first the case and then the affections of Miss Adler and runs head long into his longtime enemy, Professor Moriarty.

Crocker announces the cast, the role of Sherlock Holmes will be performed by John Alcott (Robert E. Lee & John Brown, Lighting the Fuse, Blithe Spirit, Talley's Folly, Art and A Christmas Carol) and the role of Dr. Watson by David Maga (Southern Crossroads, A Christmas Carol, The Mousetrap, Smoke on the Mountain trilogy). They will be joined by veteran Wayside Theatre actors: Thomasin Savaiano (Man of La Mancha, Southern Crossroads, A Christmas Carol, Smoke on the Mountain trilogy, and The Mousetrap), Vaughn Irving (Robert E. Lee & John Brown, Man of La Mancha, Southern Crossroads, A Christmas Carol, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story), Cody Murphy (Robert E. Lee & John Brown and Man of La Mancha), Jayson Belew (Robert E. Lee & John Brown and Man of La Mancha), Dave Sucharski (Robert E. Lee & John Brown, and Man of La Mancha) and Aviva Pressman (Man of La Mancha). The production is directed by Warner Crocker. The set designed by Til Turner, costume co-design by Tamara Carruthers and Catherine Lovejoy, sound design by Steve Przybylski and lighting design by Paul Callahan..

Sherlock Holmes, The Final Adventure will begin performances on Saturday, October 10th and. Opening Night is Sunday, October 11th at 6:30pm. The remaining performance schedule lists performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:30pm. Ticket prices are $25 and $30 dollars with tickets for children 17 and younger set at $10.00.
