Synetic Theater Sets 2016-17 Season

Synetic Theater Artistic Director Paata Tsikurishvili unveils the 2016/17 Season at Synetic Theater. For the first time ever, this season is made up entirely of wordless adaptations which will highlight the diverse talents in Synetic's famously physical, powerhouse ensemble of actors.

The season begins in September with a re-imagined, wickedly wordless version of Dante's Inferno. Then, just in time for the holiday season, Synetic Theater Artistic Director Paata Tsikurishvili will bring his innovative cinematic style to the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty, sure to be an enjoyable adventure for the whole family. In February, the company brings back their popular, Hollywood-set adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew - Shakespeare's classic "battle of the sexes." An all-new adaptation of Victor Hugo's heartbreaking epic The Hunchback of Notre Dame will grace the Synetic stage in May, followed in July by Carmen starring Synetic co-founder Irina Tsikurishvili and wordlessly re-imagined to sizzling effect!

Dante's Inferno

"Abandon all hope ye who enter here!" A lost traveler must navigate a treacherous journey through the nine circles of hell in search of spiritual redemption and his lost love. This revitalized, wordless version of Synetic's emotionally-charged production promises to be a wicked whirlwind of stunning visuals, hauntingly vivid original music, and powerful physicality. This production is recommended for ages 16 & up for violence and partial nudity.

Sleeping Beauty

Synetic's award-winning ensemble takes on the classic tale of a princess, an evil sorceress, and a centuries-long sleeping curse in this darkly elegant adaptation of one of the Grimm Brothers' most beloved stories. This magical wordless production will enchant viewers of all ages! This production is recommended for ages 7+ for moments that younger viewers may find frightening.

The Taming of the Shrew

Starring Synetic's award-winning Founding Choreographer and Associate Artistic Director Irina Tsikurishvili, the Hollywood-set adaptation of one of the Bard's best known romantic comedies returns! See the original "Battle of the Sexes" enacted with all the fiery and acrobatic motion you've come to expect from Synetic! This production will not have dialogue. This production is recommended for ages 14+ for nudity and sexual situations.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Synetic's visionary Founding Artistic Director Paata Tsikurishvili brings his mind-bending, cinematic style to Victor Hugo's gothic, heartbreaking epic of inner beauty and undying loyalty. When the beguiling dancer Esmerelda captures the heart of the deformed bell-ringer Quasimodo, his adoptive father, the priest Frollo, decides he wants her for himself - plunging all of Paris into a spiral of riots, revolution, and murder. This production will not have dialogue. Recommended for ages 13+ for violence.

Carmen

July 19 >> August 13, 2017

The award-winning production returns, wordlessly re-imagined to sizzling effect! As the irresistible and fiery Carmen draws the soldier Jose into a forbidden romance, a deadly love triangle emerges - with tragic consequences. Synetic co-founder Irina Tsikurishvili reprises the title role in this newly adapted Synetic classic. Recommended for ages 13+ for violence and adult themes.
