NICE PEOPLE DANCING TO GOOD COUNTRY MUSIC Set to Play Hanover Tavern, 7/13

By:

Virginia Rep announces the opening of NICE PEOPLE DANCING TO GOOD COUNTRY MUSIC, at Hanover Tavern, on July 13 and running through August 26.

Directed by Steve Perigard, NICE PEOPLE DANCING is a funny, light-hearted play by award-winning Broadway and Off-Broadway playwright Lee Blessing.

The title of the play is taken from the name of the bar where this quirky, country western comedy takes place. The play is set in Houston, Texas in 1982. A previous biker joint is now a respectable boot-scootin’ country music hang out after the owner, Jim, gave up his bike to appease his true love and bar manager, Eve. A local urban cowboy falls for Eve’s niece who unexpectedly shows up from out of town. A wacky, heart-warming comedy ensues as Jim and Eve try to impart wisdom on the younger generation.

Longtime local actors featured in the play are: David Bridgewater (Scorched Earth with Barksdale Theatre, August: Osage County with Cadence Theatre Company, Becky’s New Car with Barksdale Hanover Tavern) and Joy Williams (First Baptist of Ivy Gap, Driving Miss Daisy, and Barefoot in the Park with Barksdale Theatre) lead the talented cast of five. Daniel Allen, a student at Thomas Dale High School Specialty Center for the Arts, makes his debut and joins recent VCU graduates, Liz Earnest (The Elephant Man with Theatre VCU) and Matthew Mitchell (The Liar with Henley Street Theatre Company, Legacy of Light with Barksdale Theatre) to round out the cast.

Tickest for NICE PEOPLE DANCING TO GOOD COUNTRY MUSIC are $35-$38 and are available by calling the box office at 804-282-2620, or visiting www.va-rep.org.
