Kim Renz, Executive Director of Theater at Lime Kiln, today announced two events just added to the 2010 season's roster. On August 27th, Lime Kiln will host a CD Release party, and on September 26th, the theater will present the Carolina Chocolate Drops to honor Mike Seeger.

"I am really glad we have added these events," said Renz. "We have struggled this year, and we really need successful events the rest of the way through the season. After the snow moved our winter fundraiser and the way the economy has affecTed Grants and ticket sales early in the season, I welcome the chance to increase our offerings now with such great shows. Stonewall Country had a successful run, and we would like to see several more shows with that kind of result.

On Friday, August 27th the Western Virginia based band consisting of Danny Knicely, Bert Carlson, Aimee Curl and Nate Leath will perform at a CD release party to showcase their first CD. This relatively new band features highly established names in regional music circles. All of the members can boast successful individual careers, but they have not performed as an ensemble at Lime Kiln before.

Renz explained how Lime Kiln came to add the Carolina Chocolate Drops, rising stars in the world of traditional music, to the season. "After Mike Seeger passed away last year, I approached his wife, Alexia Smith, about creating a yearly concert to honor him. She told me about the Chocolate Drops, and I was sold on them very quickly for the first event."

"Mike Loved how the Chocolate Drops are digging into the old music and carrying it forward in their own special way," said Ms. Smith. "He really enjoyed their music, and their friendship, too. And he just loved to dance! I'm really looking forward to celebrating Mike in this way--it's going to be a wonderful afternoon."

Renz said the event will contain an afternoon concert and contra dancing to follow, with music by the Poison Bottom Boys and callers, including Becky McKenzie. Tickets for all events are now on sale online at theateratlimekiln.com, at the Lexington Visitors Center at 106 East Washington Street, and by calling the Lime Kiln Office at 540-463-7088.
