On Monday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day, at 8:00 PM on the main stage, world famous Irish Fiddler Michael Burke will perform in concert. He has been called Ireland's most lyrical fiddler. At the forefront of traditional music for over 30 years, he is known for his highly individual style--vibrant, expressive, relaxed, and, at times, humorous. He is well known to international audiences for his work with superlative Irish groups, from the Bothy Band to Patrick Street and Celtic Fiddle Festival.

Burke's extensive credits include recording and touring with both Arlo Guthrie and Christy Moore in the 1970's, and with former Bothy Band colleague Michael O Domhnaill in the 1980s. He was a member of Tim O'Brien's American-Celtic crossover band The Crossing, and in recent years has collaborated with Oregon guitarist Cal Scott. In 2002 Burke was awarded the NEA's National Heritage Fellowship, this country's highest honor in the traditional arts. He has resided in Portland, Oregon since the late 1970s, and in 2010 was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame.

"The great Irish fiddler Kevin Burke...plays the fiddle so smoothly, with such buoyancy, and with such relaxed showmanship, that even a large concert hall becomes intimate." - The New Yorker Magazine

" (His) lyrical style...is always emotionally electric." - The Washington Post

Tickets for the show are $20.00 for front orchestra and $15.00 for back orchestra. Seats can be reserved by calling (434) 793-SHOW (7469) or ordered online at www.TheNorthTheatre.com
