City of Fairfax Theatre Co & Truro Anglican Church Present A July Production of FOOTLOOSE: THE MUSICAL Image

Almost twenty years ago in October,1998, Footloose: The Musical opened on Broadway, leaving audiences dancing in the aisles on their way out of the theatre. Based on the beloved 1984 hit film that catapulted Kevin Bacon's career, Footloose:T he Musical features songs from the film's award winning soundtrack that reached number one on the Billboard charts and gave the world classic 80s anthems like " Let's Hear it For The Boy," "Almost Paradise," and the iconic "Footloose."

CFTC's Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormack, a big city kid from Chicago who moves to a rural small town stifled by religious edicts that include a draconian ban on dancing. Frustrated by his oppressive new environment, Ren takes on the town, breaks every taboo, and brings the joy of dance back to a broken community.

With a powerhouse score by Tom Snow and lyrics by D ean Pitchford, Footloose builds momentum and ignites the spirit of the audience. "We want our audiences to walk away from our produ ction with the word ' electric' on their lips!" says director Erich DiCenzo. "We're bringing a more modern feel to the show, but still honoring the 80s with authentic concepts in artistic style. With its contemporary choreography and an industrial multi-use set, the production will both feel and generate the high energy we want to communicate."

Kirsten Boyd, CFTC's producer, says "We wanted to pick a show this summer that would reach a lot of the talented area actors. We saw our highest audition numbers yet for teens and adults, and we're very excited about what this ensemble has to offer. I know audiences will react to them and 'kick off their Sunday shoes' for this one!"
