CAT Theater Sets Directors for 53rd Season

By:

The CAT Theatre Board of Directors has chosen the following directors to helm our 2016-2017 season of Richmond premiere plays. CAT Theatre, "Richmond's Professional Theatre with a Community Heart", is committed to welcoming and nurturing new artists, playwrights, and directors as part of the CAT family. In keeping with this tradition, CAT's season features three directors making their CAT debuts, one of whom is also making his professional debut.

Stephen W. Ryan will direct the suspense filled drama, I'LL BE BACK BEFORE MIDNIGHT written by Peter Colley (October 14 through October 29, 2016). Mr. Ryan makes his professional directorial debut with this production. He has been a locally known actor since the late 1990's, winning the inaugural RTCC award for Best Supporting Actor for Richmond Shakespeare's RICHARD II. He recently designed sound for CAT Theatre and 5th Wall Theatre's co-production of Unexpected Tenderness.

Zachary Owen will direct CAT's 2017 entry into the Acts of Faith Festival, WISHING WELL by Maryland playwright Jon Klein (January 20 through February 4, 2017). Mr. Owen graduated from Christopher Newport University in May of 2014, with a BA in Theatre. Mr. Owen made his Richmond directorial debut with HATTheatre's production of Creating Claire in March 2016. He is currently assistant directing and running sound for CAT's summer offering, Don't Cry For Me Margaret Mitchell.

Laurie Follmer, a member of CAT's Board of Directors, will direct JEEVES INTERVENES by Margaret Raether (March 17 through April 1, 2017). Ms. Follmer has recently directed Fox on the Fairway, Quartet, and the RTCC-nominated The Joshua Plant at CAT. She also recently appeared onstage at CAT in Leaving Iowa and And Then There Were None.

Ann Graham Davis will make her CAT Theatre directorial debut with the world premiere of WHEN THERE'S A WILL by Richmond playwright Philip Ventrella (May 18 through June 3, 2017). Ms. Davis has both educational and professional experience in the theatre, from Sarasota to San Diego, and is known locally for her work with Huguenot Community Players.
