BWW PREVIEW: NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT is Gettin' It at VMT

Tonight at The Sandler Center in Virginia Beach the Virginia Musical Theatre is opening their production of NICE WORK I F YOU CAN GET (music by George & Ira Gershwin, book by Joe DiPietro). I was fortunate enough to preview a rehearsal of this hilarious show earlier in the week and the powerhouse presentation only left me wanting to see the full production.

Running only 4 performances Friday, April 22 - Sunday, April 24 2:30p - You are surely encouraged to take it all in!

Matt Densky (The Little Mermaid), and Tiffany Haas (Wicked) bring a deftly human quality to these two lovers caught between her 400 cases of gin and his multiple previous marriages. Densky's spry and witty rendition of "I've Got to Be There" is countered beautifully by Haas' hilariously not sexy seduction attempt during "Treat Me Rough". These two are supported by a cast of performers filling every moment of this show with thoughtful and complete characterizations. Most notably Georgia Rogers Farmer as the teetotaler Duchess Estonia (spoiler: she gets a spiked drink that leads to a fantastic duet with Mike Dimirsky as Cookie) and Hannah Zilber as the famous modern dancer Eileen Evergreen. Zilber's spot on vain performance of "Delishious" surrounded by a chorus of dancers was a comical birth of Venus.

Virginia Musical Theatre has for years brought great professional musical talent to the Hampton Roads area and consistently holds a high standard of production. NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT is not off their mark and with direction by Chip Gallagher, choreography by Jeff Warner, and musical direction by Andrew Austin, the show ties neatly together with all in love and none behind bars!

Don't miss the fun! Friday, April 22 8p; Saturday, April 23 2p & 8p, Sunday, April 24 2:30p - Sandler Center 757-340-5446, Tickets $20-$58 Adults, $12-$18 Children. Purchase online or at the door.
