AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' Comes to the Barter Theatre

By:

AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' Comes to the Barter Theatre ImageBarter Theatre is excited to present The "Fats" Waller Musical Show "Ain't Misbehavin'" running from August 17 through September 8. Take this incredible journey as audiences follow "Fats" Waller's music to the golden age of the Cotton Club. Enjoy an evening with rowdy and humorous songs that take you back in time to the Harlem Renaissance to a view of life that's meant for pleasure and play.

From the 1929 Waller song, "Ain't Misbehavin'" boasts a delightful humor and infectious energy as the cast struts across the stage singing songs made famous by the musical. The new beat known as swing makes its mark in this hilarious and high energy musical.

" Thomas "Fats" Waller was a prolific songwriter and an internationally known performer who died entirely too early." said Joy Vandervort-Cobb, director of "Ain't Misbehavin'. But, he left us with an entre body of work that he either wrote or recorded. He made quite an impact musically in the 20's 30's and 40's. The musical is fun, catchy, and keeps moving. But overall, Waller's music and this musical does a body good."

"Ain't Misbehavin'" is made possible through the generosity of our great corporate sponsor CGI and media sponsor WCYB.

Tickets for "Aint Misbehavin'" start at just $20. For tickets and more information, call 276-628-3991 or visit BarterTheatre.com.

Barter Theatre, the nation's longest running professional theatre, is located in Abingdon, Virginia. The theatre opened in 1933 during the Great Depression. Founder Robert Porterfield offered patrons admission to the theatre by bartering food and livestock. Barter Theatre was designated as the state theatre of Virginia in 1946. It exists today as one of the last year-round professional resident repertory theaters remaining in the United States. Barter Theatre is funded in part by The Virginia Commission for the Arts and The National Endowment for the Arts.
