A CHRISTMAS STORY Returns to Barter Theatre Tonight

By:

When "A Christmas Story" finished its sold out run at Barter Theatre last December, patrons continued to call asking if the theatre would bring the show back. The calls and emails have continued.

Barter Theatre announces it is thrilled to be bringing the smash hit "A Christmas Story" back for the 2013 Christmas season. It was one of the highest attended shows in Barter's 80-year history, only out sold by "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" and "The Wizard of Oz."

Due to overwhelming popular demand, "A Christmas Story" will replace "A Sanders Family Christmas" on Barter's main stage and runs tonight, November 22 through December 29.

Barter is also excited to announce that Justin Tyler Lewis will reprise his role of Young Ralphie, and Nicholas Piper will return as Adult Ralphie. The complete cast will be announced at a later date.

Replacing one show with another is a major change for Barter Theatre. Officials believe that it is a good move, because since January, Barter has been getting calls asking for the return of "A Christmas Story."

"Patrons want us to bring the show back because they want to see it again and bring friends this time," said Lori Hester, director of patron services. "Listening to our patrons is extremely important to us."

The play has all the favorite moments of the iconic movie: the school bully, the bunny suit, the triple-dog-dare tongue on the flagpole and the iconic leg lamp.

"The show sold quickly last year, so we advise everyone to get tickets early for the best seats so they don't miss out," said Hester.

Tickets are on sale now, and "A Christmas Story" will play all dates and times previously listed for "A Sanders Family Christmas." Barter's website already reflects the update.

"A Christmas Story" is sponsored by Eastman Credit Union, Abingdon Roofing and WKPT-TV. Barter Theatre is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and Virginia's Commission for the Arts.
