Surfside Players Announces Auditions & Crew Sign-ups for
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
January 5 – 6, 2014
Set in Depression-era Maycomb, Alabama in 1935, young Scout lives with her father, Atticus Finch, an attorney, and her older brother Jem. When Tom Robinson, a black man, is accused of raping a young white woman, Atticus is asked to represent him and accepts, knowing that his decision will likely cause him, and his family, serious problems with some townspeople.
Adapted by Christopher Sergel, based on the novel by Harper Lee.

Need 9-12 men, 6-8 women; including 3 roles for children.
At Surfside Players, Cocoa Beach, Brevard County
Take Highway A1A, then west on Fifth Street South; playhouse is at the end of the street
PRODUCTION DATES: February 28 - March 16, 2014
Presented by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing Company.
There are three roles for children age 8-14. Please be aware that this classic play does contain some adult themes and dialogue.
Auditions will consist of short readings from the script. No prior experience or preparation is necessary. Materials will be provided.

LIST OF CHARACTERS AND AGES:
Jean Louise Finch: Scout as an adult woman, the narrator of the play. She tells us the story through her eyes. 25-45.
Atticus Finch: Maycomb attorney and state legislative representative who is assigned to represent Tom Robinson. A widower, Atticus is a single parent to two children: Jem and Scout. 35-60.
Scout (Jean Louise) Finch: A young, headstrong tomboy who would rather solve problems with her fists than with her head. 8-11.
Jem (Jeremy) Finch: Scout's older brother, protector, and one of her best friends. 10-14.
Dill Harris: Jem and Scout's neighborhood friend. Living in Meridian, Mississippi, Dill spends every summer with his aunt who lives in Maycomb. 8-13.
Calpurnia: The Finchs' housekeeper. She grew up at Finch's Landing and moved with Atticus to Maycomb. She is the closest thing to a mother that Scout and Jem have. 25-45.
Arthur Boo Radley: The mysterious neighbor who piques the children's interest. 21-40.
Tom Robinson: The black man who is accused of raping and beating Mayella Ewell. 21-50.
Helen Robinson: Tom Robinson's wife. 20-45.
Bob Ewell: The Ewell patriarch, who spends his welfare checks on alcohol. 40-60.
Mayella Ewell: Tom's 19-year-old accuser. 18-30.
Reverend Sykes: The church pastor that helps Jem and Scout understand the deeper meanings behind Tom's trial. 35-65.
Miss Maudie Atkinson: One of Maycomb's most open-minded citizens, Miss Maudie lives across the street from Jem and Scout. 30-65.
Miss Stephanie Crawford: The neighborhood gossip. 25-50.
Mrs. Dubose: A cantankerous, vile, elderly woman who teaches Jem and Scout a great lesson in bravery. 50-90.
Judge Taylor: The judge at Tom's trial. He appoints Atticus to represent Tom. 40-75.
Mr. Horace Gilmer: The state attorney representing the Ewells. 40-65.
Sheriff Heck Tate: Neighborhood sheriff. A decent man. 40-55.
Walter Cunningham: One of the men who comes to lynch Tom Robinson, he's also one of Atticus' clients. 40-55.
