THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME - ShenanArts

ShenanArts will be relaunching their production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in October.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, July 31st for all roles needing to be filled. This is an in-person audition. Wearing a mask is recommended but not required.

Auditions for principal roles will be held from 9:00-12:00. Auditions for supporting roles and the

ensemble will be held from 1:00-3:00. Those auditioning only need to attend one session. Those

auditioning for principal roles will be considered for supporting and ensemble roles as well

without needing to be present for the afternoon audition. If you have questions please email

The following applies to all auditions:

All auditions include a vocal and dance audition. All those auditioning should prepare a

vocal piece to sing, not longer than one minute in length. Please provide your own music,

karaoke version, by means of a digital recording (on a mobile phone or other device) or CD.

This prepared piece cannot be a piece from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Those

auditioning are also asked to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow for movement

for the dance portion of the audition.

We will be holding auditions for the following principal roles:

Those auditioning should be prepared to do a vocal and dance audition, as well as a cold

reading. Some may be taught music selections from the show as part of their audition. All

should be prepared to stay for the entire time. Those coming for this audition do not need to

come for the audition starting at 1:00 also.

Character Breakdown

9:00-12:00

Claude Frollo

Archdeacon of Notre Dame Cathedral and the most powerful cleric in Paris, he is the reluctant

caretaker of Quasimodo. He will do whatever it takes to rid the city of the gypsy “vermin,” even

as he lusts after Esmeralda. Calculating, manipulative, and obsessive.

Captain Phoebus de Martin

Returning to Paris after serving in the war, Phoebus takes up his new position as Captain of the

Cathedral Guard. Overconfident yet charming, this handsome, strong soldier makes the ladies

swoon, yet his moral compass is also strong, and he openly defies the corrupted Frollo.

Age: Appears 25 to 40

Vocal range top: Ab4

Clopin Trouillefou

The clever and charismatic King of the Gypsies. An air of mystery surrounds Clopin, who often

leaves the scene in a puff of smoke. As the master of ceremonies for the Feast of Fools, he is

witty and playful, but he boasts a darker, serious nature when not performing for the crowd.

Age: Appears 30 to 40

Vocal range top: F#5

Vocal range bottom: D3

Jehan Frollo

Claude’s reckless younger brother. With the gypsy Florika, he fathers Quasimodo, who he

leaves in his brother’s care. Wild, passionate, and strong-willed.

We will be holding auditions for the following supporting and ensemble roles:

Owner of a brothel and safe haven for gypsies.

Gargoyles and Statues.
