HACKMATACK PLAYHOUSE SUMMER SEASON - Hackmatack Playhouse
Local actors interested in performing this summer at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick may have received a stroke of good luck, thanks to Mother Nature. Due to the stormy weather the first weekend in March, the theater had a smaller turnout than usual at its annual Boston auditions and will have more roles to cast in local auditions set for later this month.
“The storm kept a lot of people from traveling to auditions last weekend,” said theater owner Michael Guptill, owner of the Berwick theater. “The good news is actors from our very own backyard will have all kids of opportunities to get cast in our four summer productions.”
Auditions will be March 24 and 25 for the two musicals and two plays that will be performed at Hackmatack Playhouse during the 2018 season.
Auditions for“All Shook Up” and “The Bridges of Madison County,” both musicals, will run 9 am to 2 pm Saturday, March 24, at the South Berwick Community Center. Auditions for the two plays - “Lend Me a Tenor” and “Dial M for Murder” - will be 10 am to 1 pm Sunday, March 25, also at the South Berwick Community Center at
71 Norton St.
“All Shook Up” has a number of leading and supporting roles, which require a variety of ages and ethnicities, according to Artistic Director Crystal Lisbon. “The Bridges of Madison County,” on the other hand, has a smaller cast, and requires more middle-aged actors with”incredibly strong vocal and acting skills,” Lisbon said, adding that both shows require an ensemble as well.
Hackmatack is looking for actors 18 and older, but will consider actors 16 and up on a case by case basis. Some actors may be asked to attend call backs immediately after auditions.
