- Please prepare one song showcasing your vocal range & acting ability

- Song should be in the style of the show but not from Chess

- Provide two copies of sheet music

- Sheet music to be provided in the correct key (no backing tracks/acapella)

- A head shot must be provided at the audition

- Part of the audition may require a vocal range test and a dialogue read

- Auditions open to 16 years of age and above

Character Descriptions:

Florence Vassy

Stage Age: Mid to Late 30's

Vocal Range – Strong belt – E3 to E5

Born in Hungary, she has been brought up in England. She is clever, theatrical, touching, vivacious and volatile. Freddy's chess second.

Anatoly Sergievsky

Stage Age: Late 30's to Early 40's

Vocal Range – Baritone – A2 to B?4

A Russian chess champion who is unexpectedly charming. He is intelligent and passionate who stops at nothing to conquer his ego.

Frederick Trumper

Stage Age: Late 30's to Early 40's

Vocal Range – Rock Tenor – B?2 to D?5

An American chess champion who is arrogant and temperamental. Ultimately a dangerous and obsessive man.

Svetlana Sergievsky

Stage Age: Late 30's to Early 40's

Vocal Range – Strong belt – F3 to E5

Anatoly's wife. Domestic and wholesome. A dramatic contrast to Florence - not a contemporary cosmopolitan woman.

Molokov

Stage Age: Late 40's

Vocal Range – Bass - G?2 to G4

Anatoly's chess second. A conniving and vindictive Russian who manipulates the players through political genius.

Walter

Stage Age: Late 40's

Vocal Range – Bass/Baritone - A?2 to F4

A marketing agent who is seemingly respectful and trustworthy. He ultimately schemes his way to power.

Arbiter

Stage Age: 30's - 40's

Vocal Range – Rock High Baritone - B2 to A4

International businessman, who is smooth with a quick temper. The official who oversees the chess tournaments.

Ensemble / Pop and Lyrical Choirs

Stage Age: 18 - 40

Vocal Range: Various

Pop and Lyrical choir who will also double featured ensemble roles within the show.

Dancers

Stage Age: 18 - 40

Strong dancers with background in contemporary, lyrical, ballet, tap and music theatre.

Mon 26th May – 7:30pm – 10:30pm

Wed 28th May – 7:30pm – 10:30pm

Compulsory Dance Audition:

Sun 1st June – 12pm – 1:30pm (Monday auditionees) and 2:00pm – 3:30pm (Wednesdayauditionees)

Callbacks (if required):
Sun 1st June – 4pm onwards

Rehearsal Information:

First Rehearsal – Sunday 15th June

Rehearsal Days – Monday (7:30pm – 11:00pm), Wednesday (7:30pm – 11:00pm), Sunday(12:00pm – 5:00pm)
