Some may lavish jewellery, perfume or flowers on their lovers. While Mozart may also have bestowed these same trifles on his beloved wife Constanze, his greatest gifts to her were in the form of music – composed expressly for her.
Mozart composed his monumental Mass in C Minor – also known as the “Great Mass” – for Constanze and when first performed in St Peter’s Church, Salzburg on 15 August 1783, his beautiful wife sang one of the virtuoso soprano roles.
Under the baton of Mark W Dorrell, Wellington’s Orpheus Choir, joined by the Wellington Youth Choir, stellar New Zealand sopranos Anna Leese and Emma Fraser, tenor Oliver Sewell, bass Kieran Rayner and Orchestra Wellington will perform Mozart's "Great" Mass in C minor.
Anna Leese will perform Mozart’s magnificent Exsultate Jubilate from his cantata of the same name.
