Southern Rep in partnership with MESA Production Company is proud to present 33 VARIATIONS, Wednesday, September 11 through Sunday, September 29 at the Contemporary Arts Center (900 Camp Street). Written by Moisés Kaufman, the 5-time Tony Award Nominated 33 VARIATIONS is the story about a modern-day music scholar driven to solve one of classical music's enduring riddles - the mystery behind Beethoven's Diabelli Variations - even as her own health and relationships crumble. A story about familial love, romantic desire, and artistic obsession, this extraordinary play examines what it means to lose the things that define us, and what we end up gaining in their stead.

September's opening marks the regional premiere of 33 VARIATIONS. Directed by Michael Cooper, it stars Maggie Eldred & Phil Karnell with Liann Pattison, Mike Harkins, Jessie Terrebonne Thompson, Silas Cooper and Randy Maggiore. The performance combines drama, moving images, and live music performed by concert pianist, Dr. Chia-Hsing Lin.

33 VARIATIONS is a co-production of Southern Rep and MESA Production Company and is presented as an educational and awareness campaign for The ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter and Team Gleason. The ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter has supplied necessary medical equipment and support services for the actors, including opportunities to work with local pALS (People with ALS), their caregivers, and physical, speech and occupational therapists. In addition, the ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter and Team Gleason will collaborate for the special performance on Friday, September 20 in support of their organizations.

MESA Production Company has also partnered with New Orleans-based letterpress studio Presse Dufour, to design and sell hand-pressed note cards and limited edition prints related to 33 VARIATIONS. Proceeds from the sales will go to benefit The ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter and Team Gleason. The hand-pressed items will be available for purchase at outlets to be announced.
