With a preview performance on August 19th and its opening August 20th, THE NEW CENTURY plays at Le Petit Théâtre du Vieux Carré in the historic French Quarter on a three week run until September 5th. It will be in the 125-seat Muriel's Cabaret Theatre, an intimate setting for a production that tackles a series of challenging topics with wit and grace, and leaves the most telling questions unanswered. THE NEW CENTURY offers adults a witty child-free night out (content not suitable for audiences under 18). It is a provocative and outrageous adult comedy, featuring a collection of hilarious characters in a sequence of four interconnected short plays.

THE NEW CENTURY written by Paul Rudnick features Francine Segal as Helene, a Jewish matron from Massapequa, Long Island who styles herself the "mosT Loving mother of all time" to her three gay children; Bob Edes JR. as the flamboyant Mr. Charles, currently of Palm Beach, an aging homosexual hounded out of New York City by younger gay men, who find his flamboyance a threatening throwback to an earlier, tougher time; Michael Aaron Santos as Shane, Mr. Charles' partner in life and on their cable TV show "Too Gay"; Ashley Ricord Santos plays Joanne, the young receptionist of "Too Gay"; and Lisa Picone as Barbara Ellen, a Midwestern craftswoman and competitive cake decorator on a visit to New York.

Curtain rises Thursday through Saturday nights at 8:30 p.m. Sunday performances begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $27 each (student and group discounts are available) through the Le Petit Box Office at 504-522-2081 or by visiting www.LePetitTheatre.com. Subscriptions for Le Petit Theatre's 95th Season, featuring new and traditional Broadway and Off-Broadway performances are also available.

Le Petit Théâtre du Vieux Carré continues its long history as a cultural icon in the New Orleans theatre and performing arts community. A launching place for young talent, a stalwart for local talent and a return stage for those who have gone on to further careers, Le Petit features a full season of new and traditional musical productions. In addition, Le Petit offers concerts, a daily film series and an eclectic mix of other productions on both its Main Stage and the smaller Muriel's Cabaret Theatre. Recently named "Favorite Live Theatre" by Gambit Weekly, New Orleans Magazine and The Times-Picayune's 2010 Reader's Choice Awards. Named "Favorite Live Theatre Venue" by Where Y'at magazine.
