Le Petit Theatre Partners with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity for DEATH OF A SALESMAN, Begin. 5/9

By:

Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre (Le Petit) has selected New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) as its charitable partner for the upcoming production of Death of a Salesman opening May 9. The theatre has set a goal of raising $3,000 for the organization by collecting donations at each show. On May 20th, employees of Le Petit, along with the show's cast and crew, will spend a day volunteering for the organization onsite.

"Death of a Salesman is the story of one man's misguided pursuit of the American Dream and how it ultimately destroys him," stated Cassie Steck Worley, Executive Director of Le Petit Theatre. "Habitat for Humanity has been such a positive force in our community, helping so many New Orleanians attain their own dream of owning a home, we felt they would be the perfect nonprofit partner for this production."

"We like to say we give a hand up, not a hand out," said Jim Pate, NOAHH executive director. "Our mission is to eliminate poverty housing, and to do that, we help our partner families never go back to substandard housing. Our program provides the tools needed not just to buy a home or build a home, but to maintain and keep a home once it's bought. Our partner families are breaking the cycle of poverty housing. All of the hard work that goes into these homes is providing a hard working, low income family with a chance to share in the American Dream of homeownership and continuing that dream for generations to come."

NOAHH has completed over 500 new homes in the 31 years of serving the Greater New Orleans area, including the 77-home neighborhood Musicians' Village. NOAHH has also gutted 2,500 in post-Katrina New Orleans, and created programs for rehabbing homes, urban gardens, blight reduction and neighborhood revitalization, and other home improvement assistance. The A Brush With Kindness program was created to address blight in neighborhoods where NOAHH builds. The program assists homeowners with small exterior repairs to their homes that they would not otherwise be able to complete themselves.

Tickets for Death of a Salesman range from $30 - $50 and may be purchased online at www.lepetittheatre.com or by visiting or calling the Le Petit Theatre's box office at 504-522- 2081 between 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Wednesday, May 21 performance features discounted ticket prices of $10 - $20.

New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. NOAHH builds new houses in partnership with sponsors, volunteers, communities, and homeowner families to eliminate poverty housing in the New Orleans area while serving as a catalyst to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Since its inception in 1983 NOAHH has built 704 homes for low-income families in need of adequate shelter. NOAHH plans to continue to build homes in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles and Plaquemines Parishes. www.habitat-nola.org
