JPAS Theatre Kids! Offers Free Dance Workshop October 3 At The Jefferson PAC

The Jefferson Performing Arts Society (JPAS) Theatre Kids! will host a free dance workshop on October 3, 2009 for young dancers of all skill-levels at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center, (EJHS Auditorium) 400 Phlox Street in Metairie. A session for kids in 3rd-7th grade will be held from 10AM-Noon. A session for teens in 8th-12th grades will be held from 1PM-3PM. This workshop is free! There is no enrollment fee to participate. JPAS Resident Choreographer, Lynne M. Lawrence will conduct the workshop. Ms. Lawrence will touch upon basic technique for strong dance foundation for the musical theatre performer.  "It is a true joy to work for a company that provides artistic and cultural education to so many of our community's youth." Ms. Lawrence said. A dancer first, her love for the arts began at a young age and she considers it an honor and privilege to pass her knowledge and love of the arts to budding young performers. Ms. Lawrence has been dancing for twenty-something years. She has been seen kicking up her heels at such theatres as Galveston Island Musicals, Tulane Summer Lyric, Rivertown Rep, Carlone's, various Casinos nationwide and our beloved JPAS. Lynne has studied with Broadway greats Anne Reinking, Chet Walker, Finis Jung and Abron Glover to name a few.For JPAS, Lynne choreographed the Ambie Award nominated CABARET for JPAS and the Ambie Award winning CATS for the high school summer program. Other JPAS choreography credits include SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE (Youth Production), AIDA, THE MERRY WIDOW and THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILOR PARK MUSICAL. She was last seen on the JPAS stage as Dodie Scrivente in WILD MUSHROOMS. Next up for Lynne is a fun-filled 32nd Season with JPAS!

JPAS believes kids' enthusiasm and energy invigorate the arts! Theatre Kids! activities give young people a chance to have fun with theatre, thus nurturing a life-long love of the arts. Are you a Theatre Kid? JPAS Theatre Kids! are back again this season with productions for kids by kids! Kids ages 7-15 are invited to participate in A CHRISTMAS CAROL on stage December 11-20, 2009 and Disney's 101 DALMATIANS on stage May 7-16, 2010, both at the Westwego Performing Arts Theatre, 177 Sala Avenue in Westwego.
