CAC's 40th Anniversary Season to Kick Off with zoe | juniper's CLEAR & SWEET

By:

The Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans (CAC) has announced three upcoming performances of the world premiere of zoe | juniper's Clear & Sweet, September 22-24, 2016 at 7:30pm in the CAC Warehouse.

A haunting performance that fuses dance and live vocals, Clear & Sweet integrates Sacred Harp Singing--a living form of spiritual a capella choral singing that is passed down over many generations. Voices meld textured layers of a single melody to form a unified song. Interspersed throughout the audience, singers collectively breathe their song amongst viewers, and bring sound to life in an immersive physical and visual convergence, blurring the line between "performer" and "observer."

For this immersive performance, the audience will gather in the theater space, the stage set, as dancers move throughout the dimly lit room. As one, dancers and audience move into the grand-scale setting of the CAC's expansive warehouse for the performance proper, a highly visual and sonically enveloping event.

Clear & Sweet is made possible by funding awarded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for the CAC's Institute for Interdisciplinary Innovation (I3), to develop and present world-class interdisciplinary artwork that defies traditional forms and expectations, created by artists born, living, and/or working in the American South. As part of the presentation, zoe | juniper will maintain a 21-day residency at the CAC in advance of the performance.
