The 21-piece JCA Orchestra performs a program of new music for jazz orchestra on April 26 at Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. The program features compositions by resident composers David Harris, Darrell Katz, Bob Pilkington, and Mimi Rabson, with soloists including Phil Scarff, Mike Peipman, Hiro Honshuku, Dan Rosenthal, David Harris, and vocalist Rebecca Shrimpton. Unlike a standard big band, the JCA Orchestra incorporates a string section, French horn, and tuba, drawing on influences that span the history of jazz and global musical traditions. A Boston institution since 1985, the ensemble has released 12 albums and is recognized as one of the finest large ensembles in the country.
