Verismo Opera Casting Supernumerary Roles for Tosca in September
New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera's Artistic Director, Lucine Amara, announces supernumerary roles are being cast during September. Supernumeraries (supers) appear in the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera's new production of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca on Sunday, October 15, 2017.
Verismo Opera, the house opera company of the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), performs the grand production at the theatre, located at 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, New Jersey, at 3:00 p.m. Supers, the equivalent of extras seen in movies, appear with principal singers from around the world on the stage.
Experienced, beginning, and aspiring actors may apply for supernumerary roles. Female and male adults and teenagers, ages 17 and above, are needed for nonsinging, nonspeaking parts in Tosca. They perform in costume and appear as soldiers, police agents, altar boys, noblemen and women, townsfolk and artisans.
No prior stage experience is required. Supers work closely with the company's General Manager/Stage Director, Canadian soprano Evelyn La Quaif, a prominent voice teacher and performer. They see first-hand the opera's development and are recognized in the production's Stagebill.
