The Players Guild of Leonia to Receive The Bergen County Historic Preservation Award

PLAYERS GUILD OF LEONIA (501c3) has been selected to receive a 2017 Bergen County Historic Preservation Award from the Bergen County Historic Preservation Advisory Board. PGL has been cited in the category Preservation or Restoration of a Structure or Historic Site.

PGL is being recognized for the "commitment and dedication of The Players Guild of Leonia for the preservation of this significant and unique historic building". The Historic Civil War Drill Hall Theater,

The Home of Players Guild of Leonia and its members beautifully restored and maintains the LAST standing Civil War Drill Hall and Home of The New Jersey Blues Division. This intimate unique building and stage provides quality theatrical productions for the surrounding communities of Leonia and Bergen County. Much of the original "plank flooring and lobby entrance remains the same. This is truly a unique theater space to experience.

The Players Guild of Leonia is soon to celebrate their CENTENNIAL SEASON as the Oldest, Longest Running Community Theater group in the state of NJ! Since 1919 artists, actors, singers, and theater arts interested residents have been gathering and performing and in 1996 Civil War Drill Hall Theater was conceived in the shadow of NYC and its Broadways Lights. This is an exciting time for the Borough of Leonia and PGL. Leonia, long known as an "artists colony", with a long and rich art heritage now celebrates this 'historically" significant community theater as it prepares to celebrate its centennial in this historically significant, last standing Civil War Drill Hall. County Exective James J. Tedesco lII and the Board of Chosen Freeholders will present this award during the public program to be held at 7pm, Thursday, May 4th at Englewood's historic St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 113 Engle Street, Englewood NJ.
