The Theater Company of Hoboken (TTC) at The Turtle Club in Hoboken welcomes the public for a Speakeasy on Monday, January 23, 2012 from 7-10pm. This event will be a fundraiser for TTC with proceeds going to benefit their 2011-2012 season.

Included in the evening dedicated to the roaring 20's are a 3-hour open bar, passed appetizers, live music from Jerry Ficeto & Friends, a raffle, door prizes, and much more. Actors from TTC's upcoming production of THE WILD PARTY will be featured and tickets will be given away for the performance - business cards are needed in order to partake. Attendees must be 21 or older but are encouraged to come in costume and join in on the favorite festivities of every former flapper.

“Ticket sales only bring in a small portion of our operating budget," said Producing Artistic Director of the TTC, David Zimmerman. "They may cover the cost of a particular production, but overhead like rent, utilities, website, even office supplies are not covered by ticket sales. To continue our programming and producing quality performing arts for the community on a regular basis, these overhead costs need to be covered. And with the Speakeasy at The Turtle Club, we are not just raising money but having fun - getting ‘in the mood’ for our next production, THE WILD PARTY.”

Michelle Samarel, dedicated cast member of THE WILD PARTY, has been working in contension with the TTC for the event, as well. She knew the owners of The Turtle Club are great supporters of the arts in Hoboken, and a that the club would be the perfect location for the Speakeasy, being a new bar, but with a classic and traditional feel and history.

Rich in history, The Turtle Club is the first organized social club in American History. It was founded in 1796 by Col. John Stevens with early membership including Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr and John Jay - and even saw the original heydey of prohibition.
