Princeton Symphony Orchestra Presents Broadway POPS! Concert, 'The Garland Magic,' 2/9
Celebrate the beloved icon Judy Garland, when the Princeton Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Broadway POPS! concert at Richardson Auditorium in downtown Princeton, on February 9, 2013, at 8 pm. This year's show, The Garland Magic, presents soprano Karen Mason in a passionate and brilliant recreation of Judy Garland's legendary Carnegie Hall concert-often referred to as "the greatest night in show business history." Michael Berkowitz leads the PSO in Judy's rich orchestrations of musical gems like Get Happy, Puttin' on the Ritz, Come Rain or Come Shine, Over the Rainbow, and more.
Karen Mason, a singer of "fierce emotion" who "creates a mood of wild expectation" (The New York Times) has starred on Broadway and off-Broadway; headlined shows at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center; and released highly acclaimed recordings. Ms. Mason most recently garnered rave reviews starring as "The Queen of Hearts" in Wonderland on Broadway. She is widely praised for her powerful voice "that lifts the room to some new astral plane" (The Village Voice).
Michael Berkowitz is currently the principal pops conductor of the Santa Rosa Symphony in California. Previously, he served as music director and conductor for Liza Minnelli, and as music director for Marvin Hamlisch, appearing with him at the White House, the Academy Awards, and concert halls across the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Berkowitz is a celebrated and sought-after Broadway conductor, having collaborated with theatre legends such as Harold Prince, Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne, and Michael Bennett, among others.
