Premiere Stages at Kean University Announces 2017 Bauer-Boucher Award Winner
Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has named B.V. Marshall as the winner of the 2017 Bauer-Boucher Award. Named for longtime Premiere Stages supporters W. John Bauer and Nancy Boucher, the Bauer-Boucher Award honors the work of gifted Kean student and alumni playwrights. The award is presented in conjunction with the one-day developmental Bauer-Boucher Kean Student/Alumni Reading, which affords the selected playwright the opportunity to hear his or her work read aloud by professional actors at Kean. This year's reading, taking place on January 23 at 3:20pm in the Miron Student Center Little Theatre on the Kean campus, will feature Mr. Marshall's Incident at Willow Creek. In this compelling and timely new work, Verité, an African American college professor, questions her neutral stance on guns after a troubling incident results in the killing of an innocent black man.
A member of the Dramatists Guild and a graduate of Kean ('73), Mr. Marshall is the recipient of playwriting fellowships from the NJ State Council on the Arts, Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, VCCA, the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities for the study of African Americans in Performing Arts. His plays have been developed and/or produced at HBO's new writers' workshop, Theatre for the New City, InterAct Theatre, Luna Stage, and short play festivals in Alaska, Connecticut, Montreal, and Melbourne, Australia. In addition to Mr. Marshall's Incident at Willow Creek, Premiere Stages is proud to announce the runner-up Edenville by Christopher DeBono '17, and finalists Man and My Man by James Abro '76, The Hermaphrodite God by Mariah Ayscue '19, and Prudence in Jest by Jonathan Kwiatkowski '15. Premiere Stages offers affordable prices, air-conditioned facilities, and free parking close to the theatre. Premiere Stages also provides free or discounted tickets to patrons with disabilities. All Premiere Stages facilities are fully accessible spaces, and companion seating is available for patrons with disabilities. Assistive listening devices and large print programs are available at all times; publications in alternate formats are available with advanced notice. Please call 908-737-4092 for a list of sign-interpreted, audio-described or open-captioned performances. For more information, visit Premiere Stages online at www.kean.edu/premierestages.Videos
