Pioneer Productions to Offer Solo Show Workshop That Puts You In The Spotlight

Pioneer Productions will present the first offering in its Stagecraft Education Series - Solo-Creating a Show That Puts YOU in the Spotlight- on Saturday October 13 from 11:00 AM until 5:30 PM. Taught by Wendy Lane Bailey and Bruce De La Cruz the intensive one day masterclass is designed to help performers create and perform their own one person musical shows.

"We want to get performers away from the idea that you have to wait to be cast in a show," says Dan Vissers, the company's artistic director, "There's no reason to wait when you can create a vehicle for yourself that showcases all your best qualities. It's a great way to get attention, build your brand, and keep your performance muscles sharp."

Area's covered in the class include: song performance, choosing material, working with a musical director and arranger, structuring and sequencing a set, establishing a rapport with the audience, visual image, and booking and promoting. The class size is limited to allow ample performance and instruction time for each student. The final portion of the day will be an informal performance for an invited audience of friends and family, giving students the opportunity to try out what they've learned.

The class is taught by Wendy Lane Bailey with Bruce De La Cruz as musical director. Both instructors have extensive experience in their field. For six years Bailey was the associate director of the Cabaret Conference at Yale University, a yearly event that took top flight instructors such as Tony Award winner Faith Prince, songwriter Amanda McBroom (the Rose) and American Idol associate musical director/pianist Michael Orland and put them together with students from across the country for a week of training in solo performance. She is also a performer in her own right appearing in numerous venues nationwide. Bruce De La Cruz is a pianist, arranger, and teacher who can be found playing for many theatres in the New Jersey area. He is a staff accompanist at Paper Mill Playhouse and the company music director for Fearless Productions.

Solo takes place at the Montclair Operetta Club on Saturday October 13th from 11:00 AM until 5:30 PM. The cost of the class is $150 and there is an early registration discount of $25 for those who sign up prior to September 16. Use the code early at checkout to acquire the discount.
