Pianist Leon Bates to Perform with the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey in NYE Concert, Today

By:

Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey will welcome pianist Leon Bates in a New Year's Eve concert on December 31.

One of Trenton's most beloved traditions continues! Start off the New Year in spectacular fashion with a festive evening of light classics by Suppe, Johann Strauss Jr., Rimsky-Korsakov, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. Joining the orchestra for a performance of the iconic Rhapsody in Blue will be world renowned pianist Leon Bates. Mr. Bates' stellar career includes appearances with major US symphonies, such as the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the American Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, and the Atlanta Symphony. He has toured the US with the New York Pops, the Boston Pops under Keith Lockhart, and with Orchestre de France with Lorin Maazel, and has also appeared with leading orchestras and in prestigous festivals around the world. This will be an exciting and fun way to bring in the New Year.

The Capital Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey was founded in the fall of 2013 in a quest to make Trenton a proud, culturally integrated, musical beacon of renewal. They believe that Trenton deserves investments in cultural leadership for their kids and seniors, their business community, their educators, and their civic entrepreneurs. Even in this short time, these groups have embraced their vision and awarded sponsorships, partnerships, publicity, board service, and concert attendance. Their mission "to change lives and enhance quality of life by providing Trenton and its surrounding communities with a locally-based high quality professional symphony orchestra" is unfolding successfully.

The simultaneous demise of established classical orchestras on both sides of the Delaware River, the abandonment of Trenton concerts by the New Jersey Symphony, and the new availability of the iconic and luxuriously refurbished War Memorial Patriots Theater presented a unique opportunity to begin anew and to fill a void in the local musical and cultural landscape. Seizing the moment, a distinguished 16-member Board of Trustees was carefully chosen to include dedicated community leaders, people already known as movers and shakers in business and the arts. The Capital Philharmonic is now a driving force in the economic renaissance of downtown Trenton.
