PSO to Host 'Behind the Music' with Composer Jing Jing Luo, 1/30

By:
Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents Behind the Music with Jing Jing Luo on Saturday, January 30 at 4 pm at the Arts Council of Princeton's Paul Robeson Center. A native of China, Ms. Luo talks about Chinese culture and its impact on her life and music and provides insights into the creative process behind her composition Tsao Shu. PSO board member and composer Julian Grant, a former resident of Bejing, offers his own impressions of Chinese culture and its distinctive aesthetic. There is an opportunity for audience members to participate during a question and answer period.

PSO Behind the Music is free and open to the public. Reservations requested. Wine and cheese served. Visit princetonsymphony.org to order your free ticket or call (609) 497-0020.

Jing Jing Luo is a prolific composer and performer with a distinctive musical language. She has received a commissioning award from the Koussevitzky Music Foundation, two from the Rockefeller Foundation, and an American Academy of Arts and Letters award, among others. The American Academy of Arts and Letters praised her music as "...expressive, a fascinating mixture of sources, and exciting virtuosity," stating that Ms. Luo is continually "refining her special language with each new score."

Ms. Luo is a Music Alive: New Partnerships Composer-in-Residence with the PSO. Her residency is made possible through Music Alive: New Partnerships, a residency program of New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras. This national program is designed to establish new relationships between composers and orchestras, and to help orchestras present new music to the public and build support for new music within their institutions. Leadership funding for Music Alive is provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, with additional support from The Aaron Copland Fund for Music and The ASCAP Foundation Bart Howard Fund.

Ms. Luo's Tsao Shu will be performed at the Sunday, January 31 PSO Classical Series Concert Three Songs at 4 pm, at Richardson Auditorium, on the campus of Princeton University. Tickets available online: princetonsymphony.org or by phone (609) 497-0020.
