The 2013 Season at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre continues with a musical that's always a family favorite. Scheduled for 2 weekends, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat begins on Friday, August 16 and runs through Sunday, August 25. Performances are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 pm.

The first full-length musical by the legendary theatrical team of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, his devoted father, his jealous brothers and his incredible series of adventures. Originally only 20 minutes long, a 19-year-old Andrew Lloyd Webber first created the musical for a British school choir in 1968. He asked his friend Tim Rice to write the lyrics and the musical would later be expanded to the version that audiences enjoy today.

The Open Air Theatre production of Joseph features Jill Palena as the Narrator. Area audiences have enjoyed Jill in a long list of leading roles at the outdoor venue. This season alone, she has been seen as Tess in Crazy for You, Basha in Young Frankenstein and Janet Van De Graaff in The Drowsy Chaperone. Mike Nappi takes on the title role of Joseph. Mike has appeared in past Open Air Theatre productions of The Wizard of Oz (Scarecrow) and Anything Goes, among others.

Filled with youthful energy, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat combines a wide variety of musical styles - everything from country to calypso to rock 'n roll - in a series of memorable musical numbers. Described as a high-voltage extravaganza, Joseph includes such classic songs as the contemplative "Any Dream Will Do," the Caribbean infused "Benjamin Calypso," the dazzling "Jacob and Sons/Joseph's Coat the rockabilly sensation "Song of the King (Seven Fat Cows)" and the unforgettable "Go, Go, Go Joseph."

The Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be performed on Friday, August 16, Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18 at 7:30. The musical comedy returns for a second weekend of performances on Friday, August 23, Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25 again at 7:30. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children (ages 12 and under). Tickets can always be purchased at the Open Air Theatre Box Office prior to the performance. Group discounts are available.
