Next Show At MCCC Gallery Opens Oct. 29 Image

The Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will showcase works by five artists in its upcoming group exhibit "I kinda live where I find myself." The show runs from Monday, Oct. 29 to Thursday, Dec. 20. The community is invited to a reception on Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Featured artists include Chris Bogia (New York), Eric Hibit (New York), Morgan Hobbs (Philadelphia), Lauren Whearty (Philadelphia), and Howie Lee Weiss (Baltimore). Three of the artists will present talks as part of this special exhibit: Hibit on Wednesday, Nov. 7 (CM107); Whearty on Wednesday, Nov. 14 (CM109); and Bogia on Monday, Nov. 19 (CM109). All talks start at noon.

According to MCCC Professor of Fine Arts Lucas Kelly, the show's curator, the works of these artists are disparate in approach, but each artist celebrates the small objects that inhabit people's personal spaces. "Relating to classic European still life painting that told a story of class, economics, and stature by the objects selected in each tableau, these artists select items that inherently discuss our contemporary lives," Kelly explains. "The items they choose to base their work on have different functions - some may be subversively political while others may be secretly emotional touch points. For each artist their work may choose to celebrate our existence in these mundane everyday objects."

The Gallery at Mercer is directed by Alice Thompson. Gallery hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
