As part of New Jersey Theatre Alliance's 18th annual Stages Festival, on Wednesday, March 18th, at 7:00 p.m., McCarter Theatre Center of Princeton will offer a relaxed performance of Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery-a comedic adventure running March 10th to March 29 on McCarter's Matthews Stage.
Sherlock Holmes battles one of his greatest mysteries to date in Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, a world-premiere adaption from Tony Award-nominated playwright Ken Ludwig (Broadway's Lend Me a Tenor). Adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved The Hound of the Baskervilles, this fast-paced comedic tale of murder, intrigue and a wild hound is directed by Amanda Dehnert (Trinity Repertory, Oregon Shakespeare Festival). Direct from its world premiere run in Washington, D.C.; Baskerville is a co-production with Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. The relaxed performance will be adapted to provide a conducive environment for individuals on the autism spectrum, with cognitive or developmental differences, or other sensory and communication needs. The objective is to allow these individuals and their families to enjoy live theatre together. Janet Dickson, Access Coordinator at McCarter, explained that this is the theatre's third such offering and their program of relaxed performances will continue. "I have been involved in theatre most my life, but these experiences are unlike any others I've had," said Dickson. "It's magic. You realize that theatre is for everyone, not just a select few. You see the looks in their faces-you see that theatre is getting to them. And the people who do it-the actors and staff-get as much out of it as the audience."
