Lisa Fischer & Grand Baton to Stop at SOPAC This October
Grammy Award-winning vocalist Lisa Fischer is stepping into the spotlight at South Orange Performing Arts Center Saturday, October 14 at 8 p.m.
After four decades of singing background for music icons like the Rolling Stones, Sting, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, and Nine Inch Nails, she is finally offering her own humble, heartfelt song, accompanied by her inventive band Grand Baton.
The music of Lisa Fischer and Grand Baton is an organic gumbo of Progressive Rock, Psychedelic Soul, and African, Middle Eastern, Caribbean rhythms and classical influences. Live in concert, they re-invent songs by Led Zeppelin, Amy Grant, Little Willie John, and The Rolling Stones as well as Lisa's own originals.
Lisa Fisher won her first Grammy Award for "How Can I Ease The Pain," from her 1991 album So Intense. With a hit song on the radio and a Grammy Award win, a major solo tour seemed inevitable, but Lisa was on the road, backing either her beloved mentor Luther Vandross or The Rolling Stones. Lisa was, and still is, a legend in the music industry; everyone loves her sound. But she never put her own band together, never toured under her own name until now.
After years of supporting other artists, electrifying the world's largest arenas with the power of her voice, Lisa Fischer has finally taken center stage. The breakout success of the Oscar-winning documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom (2013) altered the course of Lisa Fisher's musical journey. Featuring clips of her legendary duet with Mick Jagger on Gimme Shelter and clips of her 1991 Grammy-winning R&B hit "How Can I Ease The Pain," the film showcased her virtuosity and vulnerability, and earned her a second Grammy Award.
Lisa Fischer will bring her talents to the South Orange Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32-$42 and are on sale now. They can be purchased online at www.sopacnow.org/lisa-fischer or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787.
