HAIR to Play Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre August 9-11
By: Robert Diamond
The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, Hair, often hailed as the father of modern rock musicals, takes the stage at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre for one weekend. Set for 3 performances, Hair will be performed on Friday, August 9, Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 at 7:30 pm.
Set in the 1960s, Hair recaptures a time that may have been decades ago, but still resonates in today's society. The musical tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies living a bohemian life in New York City. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle to balance their young lives and their ongoing rebellion against the Vietnam War draft, their conservative parents and society. Due to language and sexual themes that are portrayed in the production, Hair is suggested for mature audiences. With songs that entered America's popular songbook like "Aquarius," "Good Morning, Starshine," "Easy to be Hard," and "Let the Sunshine In," Hair features a cast made up of alumni of Lambertville, NJ's Downtown Performing Arts Center. Now open for over a decade, Downtown PAC has seen hundreds of young adults walk through its doors with many former students successfully establishing careers in the performing arts. Kyle McClellan, of Doylestown, PA, appears as Claude. Open Air audiences have seen Kyle in numerous productions over the past few seasons including the recent Open Air production of Crazy for You. Also in the cast are Taylor Beckman, of Flemington, NJ, as Jeanie, Lindsay Frazier, of Atlanta, GA, as Sheila and Damian Quinn, of Whitehouse Station, NJ as Berger. From left to right, Kyle McClellan as Claude, Taylor Beckman as Jeanie, Lindsay Frazier as Sheila and Damian Quinn as Berger in the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre production of Hair.
