Broadway Theatre of Pitman kicks off its mainstage season with Showboat, featuring music by Jerome Kerns, lyrics and book by Oscar Hammerstein II and based on a book by Edna Farber. The production runs today, January 11 through Feburary 3, 2013.

Come aboard for an epic American musical! A sweeping tale spanning nearly fifty years from 1880 to 1927, Showboat depicts a journey into the lives, loves and heartbreaks of three generations of show folk on the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River showboat. Its themes include racial prejudice and tragic, enduring love.

The arrival of Showboat on Broadway was a watershed moment in the history of American musicals, hailed as "a radical departure in musical storytelling, marrying spectacle with seriousness." Jerome Kern's masterpiece is a true treasure trove of unforgettable musical numbers including "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" and "You Are Love."

This musical is suitable for all audiences.

Tickets: $28. Click here to order tickets online, or order by phone at 856-384-8381. The show runs today, January 11-February 3, playing Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. There will be a Special Engagement on Sunday, January 27 at 7:00 pm.
