Artist Taji Ra'oof Nahl Presents Interdisciplinary Performance at MCCC Gallery Image

The Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) presents a special exhibit featuring interdisciplinary artist Taji Ra'oof Nahl from Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Thursday, Oct. 18. On Oct. 10, the Gallery hosts "An Evening with Taji Nahl" from 5 to 7 p.m., with Nahl's presentation to start at 6 p.m. The public is invited.

Originally part of the seventh Micro Film Festival #7, Nahl will project three films simultaneously in the Gallery's main room as he explores the past- and present-day surveillance state. During the screening of the films on Oct. 10, Nahl will perform a live improv score with fellow musician Joan Lopez. An informal Q&A session will follow the presentation. The films will be shown through Thursday, Oct. 18.

The MCCC Gallery is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. More information, including directions, is available at www.mccc.edu/gallery.

Nahl is a sculptor, filmmaker and musician who has performed extensively in gallery and educational settings. Recent performances have taken place at Moore College of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

"Visitors will have a unique opportunity to view the films while also listening to a live soundtrack scoring session," said MCCC Professor of Visual Arts Lucas Kelly, the curator for this performance/exhibit. "This is an interdisciplinary event that brings together different disciplines. What we think of as traditional boundaries in the arts don't exist here. We expect to draw visitors who are interested in visual arts, theater, film, sound production, music, and performance."

Among the many exhibit spaces that have featured Nahl's work are the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, The Italian Palace - Tangier, Morocco, Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College, Fisher Brooks Gallery, and the Averill and Bernard Leviton Gallery at Columbia College of Chicago.

More about Taji Nahl is available at www.araoof.com.
