American Theater Group Sets 2014-15 Season: SIZE MATTERS, TICK, TICK...BOOM! & More

By:

Celebrating its 3rd season, American Theater Group, New Jersey's newest professional theater company, has announced its 2014-2015 season. The company is in residence at Hamilton Stage in Rahway.

Raymond McAnally's comedy, Size Matters, will open the season, running from November 12 through November 23. This new production, which received its world premiere at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, where it played to critical acclaim, is McAnally's comedic tale of his current life as a plus sized actor, new husband, and uncle to an admiring overweight ten year old nephew. The show creates joy, laughter, and most importantly, dialogue. McAnally, whose numerous stage credits include Defending the Caveman (Broadway National Tour), God's Ear (Off-Broadway), Mere Mortals (Two River Theater), earned his MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University.

The season will continue tick, tick...BOOM! in which Jonathan Larson (creator of RENT) weaves an unforgettable spell in this passionate, funny and uplifting musical about a struggling artist who is trying to keep in all together, his girlfriend, his childhood buddy...and turning thirty. All while trying to write the next great American musical. An inspiring story of a struggling artist who chooses to follow his dreams, tick, tick... BOOM! features a dynamic pop-rock score blended with traditional musical theater styles. The New York Times raves, "Larson's songs thrum with the intense feeling, larky humor and musical vitality that are the hallmark of enduring theater...it retains the heart-grabbing feeling of a story written yesterday, or today, or tomorrow." Tick, tick...BOOM! will run January 28 through February 8.

Rounding out the season will be Neil LaBute's In a Forest, Dark and Deep, April 8 through 19. In this exhilarating play of secrets and sibling rivalry, award winning playwright Neil LaBute unflinchingly explores the dark territory of "the lies you tell yourself to get by." New York Magazine calls Neil LaBute "the most legitimately provocative and polarizing playwright at work today," while the Financial Times raves, "The play twists continually, and truth is always one twist away. LaBute is such a skillful writer - edgy, funny, outrageous." Neil LaBute's plays include bash, The Shape of Things, The Distance From Here, The Mercy Seat, Fat Pig, Some Girl (s), Reasons to Be Pretty, and his newest play, The Money Shot.

Individual tickets are $35 each.
