Royal Shakespeare Company's ANTONY & CLEOPATRA Comes to River Street Theatre This Weekend

This upcoming July 4th weekend, Jaffrey's River Street Theatre Stage2Screen Series will present the globally acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company production of Shakespeare's ANTONY & CLEOPATRA which was captured in high-definition as it was performed on stage in Stratford-upon-Avon on May 24, 2017. It will be screened at 1:30pm and 6:30pm on Sunday, July 2nd and again at 1:30pm on Monday, July 3rd.

Part of the RSC's ROME Series, ANTONY & CLEOPATRA is another tale of epic tragedy following Caesar's assassination and Mark Antony reaching the heights of power. Antony has neglected his empire for a life of decadent seduction with his mistress, Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. Torn between love and duty, Antony's military brilliance deserts him, and his passion leads the lovers to their tragic end.

Iqbal Khan returns to the RSC to direct, following his critically acclaimed productions of Othello (2015) and Much Ado About Nothing (2012).

Tickets are $20 (students and teachers may obtain discounted tickets at $15 each).

The River Street Theatre is located in downtown Jaffrey at 6 River Street. Due to the intimate size of the River Street Theatre, it is highly recommended tickets are purchased in advance. About the River Street Theatre

The new River Street Theatre (or RST) is a project of The Park Theatre. In anticipation of the construction and opening of the new Park Theatre performing arts center, the RST will be a small, intimate theatre venue to "bridge" the construction project until the new theatre complex opens. The RST boasts only 28 seats, but it has new, extremely comfortable & upholstered wide seating, HD digital projection plus the best concessions around. Every week The RST will present new independent films, inspiring and educational documentaries, fresh foreign films, and classic films from Hitchcock to the Coen Brothers. Additionally, the RST will have live music nights, stand-up comedy, magicians, programming for children as well as readings from new and classic plays. All offered at affordable prices. It makes the claim, "New England's Smallest Theatre... and proud of it." The RST promises programming that is always entertaining, innovative and fresh. Located at the heart of New Hampshire's Mount Monadnock, the RST is a 90 minute drive from downtown Boston.

About The Park Theatre

The Park Theatre first opened in Jaffrey in 1922 and was the center of community life as a movie and vaudeville house for 54 years until it closed in 1976. Purchased by The Park Theatre, Inc. in 2006, it will be rebuilt as a state-of-the-art film and performing arts center, featuring two auditoriums seating 485, presenting movies, live theatre, including children's productions, concerts, and lectures as well as offering a place for business and community gatherings for the Monadnock Region and its 100,000 residents, school districts and dynamic artistic community. The new theatre is scheduled to be opened in 2018.
