New York Theatre Company will present DUCK AND COVER, opening February 15 at the West End Studio Theatre in Portsmouth, NH.

1962. America's postwar innocence teeters on the brink of a massive culture change: racial integration, feminism, school prayer, Vietnam, Bob Dylan and The Beatles, the birth control pill... Such is the world surrounding DUCK AND COVER, a new play by York playwright/novelist Michael Kimball, who draws from his own boyhood, sheltered in a suburban Massachusetts home much like the one he's created for the stage.

Twelve-year-old Stevie Whitebottom wants a pair of sneakers. Claire, his housewife mother, would like to get her drivers license. But Hugh, the loving, yet regimented patriarch, sees sneakers and women drivers as the first steps to anarchy. Just your average American household, until Claire's brother Bunny, a trumpeter recently returned from the jazz clubs of Paris, needs a place to stay.

From the playwright responsible for local favorites Santa Come Home, The Secret of Comedy, Best Enemies, and the Edgar-nominated Ghosts of Ocean House comes a brand new comedy that brings a whole new meaning to Duck and Cover! Director Lisa Stathoplos leads Kimball cast veterans Don Goettler, Michael Crockett, and Gregg Trzaskowski and seasoned actors Kimberly Holliday, Paul Benford-Bruce and Nash Tasker onstage for this world premiere event.

DUCK AND COVER will run February 15-24 at the West End Studio Theatre, 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth, NH. With performances at 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays, tickets are $18 General Admission and $15 for Students/Seniors. To make reservations, call 207-370-9062 or email DUCKandCOVERtix@gmail.com. For more information check our website at www.duckandcoverinportsmouth.wordpress.com.
