The National Ballet Theatre of Odessa will perform its production of Tchaikovsky's classic "Swan Lake" at the Capitol Center for the Arts on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3PM. This full-scale production features choreography after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov and is based on Russian folklore and German legend of a heroic young prince as he works to free a beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell. This is the ballet company's first U.S. tour.

Not much is known about the original production of Swan Lake, as only a handful of letters and memos exist. Like The Nutcracker, Swan Lake was initially unsuccessful. Tchaikovsky's music was considered too complicated and the dancers had difficulty dancing to it. Also, its original choreography was seen as uninspiring and unoriginal. Only after Tchaikovsky's death was Swan Lake revived. Today, the ballet is a favorite of many dancers and audiences because of the magnitude of skill required to properly dance the part of Odette.

Tickets for the January 27 performance of "Swan Lake" are currently on sale starting at $27, plus any applicable fees for phone/Internet sales. They may be ordered by calling the Capitol Center for the Arts at (603) 225-1111 or online at www.ccanh.com. Tickets may also obtained at the CCA's box office at 44 South Main St., Concord, NH, which is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11AM to 6PM and Saturdays from 11AM to 2PM.
