By: Liz Cearns Oct. 06, 2016
The Capitol Center for the Arts' 2016-17 Lincoln Financial School Series debuts November 2 with New Rep's Classic Repertory Company's production of Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic The Scarlet Letter. When Hester Prynne commits an act of adultery, she is isolated and shamed by her community. Wrought with guilt that is veiled by piety, can she reconcile her duty with her desire?
The School Series exposes New Hampshire schoolchildren to the performing arts and connects to key curriculum objectives such as creative writing, communication and language arts development, and storytelling. Tickets are $7 per ticket. A minimum of one chaperone per 20 students is required. One free chaperone ticket is provided with every 20 paid tickets. "A live theater experience is very special for young people," says CCA Executive Director Nicolette Clarke. "Children easily enter that magical place where artists and audiences become one. Whether it is a play based on a book of children's literature or a science experiment camouflaged in magic, the Capitol Center provides experiences that stimulate the imagination, encourage critical thinking and support learning across the curriculum. This caliber of programming would not be possible without the support of Lincoln Financial." The 2016-17 School Series comprises: Nov 2 - The Scarlet LetterNov 10 - The Ugly Duckling
